Why chart-first traders still need a journal
Charts tell you where to look. A journal tells you whether what you saw actually paid, and whether you followed your own rules.
Push, don't type
TradingView does not push closed trades to journals, so on Free you log manually or import a CSV. If you execute through MT4, MT5 or cTrader terminals, Pro auto-sync pushes every closed trade in via a free EA or cBot.
What to track
Instrument, timeframe, the setup you drew on the chart, entry, exit, size, tags and notes, the execution detail replay and backtests can't show you.
Review weekly
Weekly report export shows win rate, profit factor and where losses cluster, so you stop re-checking the same mistakes. The Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.
Workflow
A TradingView screenshot journal in three steps
- Log the trade. Enter it by hand or import a CSV from your broker. On MT4, MT5 or cTrader it arrives by itself on Pro.
- Paste the chart. Screenshot your TradingView setup and paste it onto the trade, so the picture you traded from is saved with the result.
- Tag and review. Tag the setup and timeframe, then check each tag's win rate in the weekly review.

FAQ
TradingView journaling questions, answered.
Can I backtest in TradingView for free?
TradingView includes backtesting tools such as the Strategy Tester, and how much of them you can use depends on your plan, free accounts are the most limited. Either way, a backtest measures the strategy on historical data, not how you actually execute it live. That gap is what a journal closes: log your real entries and exits, review them weekly, and compare what you planned with what you did. Dusk Analyst's Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.
Can you use replay on TradingView for free?
TradingView's replay tools let you step through a chart bar by bar, and access depends on your plan. Replay is a practice tool: it shows you what you would have done with hindsight, but it cannot show you what you actually did, your fills, your hesitation, your size. For that you need a journal. Dusk Analyst records every trade with entry, exit, size and notes, and our 2026 audit checked 356 brokers and prop firms one by one against their own sites, with the evidence shown in the brokers table on our home page.
How do I get my TradingView trades into a journal?
TradingView does not push closed trades to third-party journals, so on Free you log trades manually or import a CSV from your broker or platform. If you execute through MT4, MT5 or cTrader terminals, Pro auto-sync pushes every closed trade over HTTPS with a per-account API key, a free EA or cBot does the pushing, and it is read-only: it never places orders, changes charts, or touches your indicators. The journal never sees your broker password or login credentials; only your closed trades and the account nickname leave the terminal. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek.
Does TradingView have a built-in trading journal?
TradingView is a charting and analysis platform built around Pine Script, it does not include a structured journal with win rate, profit factor and weekly performance reports. Dusk Analyst adds that layer: log or import your trades, tag the setup, and get analytics, calendars and weekly report export. Free covers two accounts with manual entry and CSV import at $0; Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.
What should a trading journal track for TradingView traders?
Record the instrument, the timeframe, the setup you marked on the chart, entry, exit, size, P&L and one honest note about execution. Over time that reveals which chart patterns actually pay and where you deviate from your plan. Dusk Analyst structures all of it for you. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek. No credit card is required for Free, there are no setup fees, and you can cancel in one click.
What is the best trading journal for TradingView?
The best trading journal for TradingView is one that keeps your chart, your notes and your numbers together. Dusk Analyst does that: log a trade or import a CSV, paste the TradingView screenshot onto it, tag the setup, and review win rate and profit factor weekly. It is free for 2 accounts. It does not connect to TradingView directly.
Can I add TradingView screenshots to my trading journal?
Yes. Take a screenshot of your TradingView chart, open the trade in Dusk Analyst and paste it (Ctrl+V) or drop the image onto the trade's screenshot area. The image stays on that trade next to your notes and tags, so when you review you see the exact chart you traded from. Screenshots stay private to your account.
Does Dusk Analyst sync with TradingView?
No. TradingView does not send closed trades to outside journals, so Dusk Analyst cannot sync with it. You log TradingView trades by hand or import a CSV. If you place trades through an MT4, MT5 or cTrader broker, those trades auto-sync on the Pro plan through a read-only EA or cBot.
How do I export my TradingView trade history?
Every TradingView terminal keeps a closed-trade history in its Account History view, and that data can be exported to a file for import elsewhere. Save the history as a report or CSV (the fields are standard: time, ticket, symbol, volume, price, commission, swap, profit), then import the file into Dusk Analyst on any plan - the free tier includes CSV import. On Pro you don't even need to export: the Dusk Analyst EA reads the same history automatically and pushes each close as it happens, including catch-up for periods the terminal was off.
Is there a free TradingView trading journal?
Yes - Dusk Analyst's free tier is $0 forever and works with TradingView: two accounts, manual entry and CSV import, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve calculated for you. That's a genuinely usable free journal, not a trial. If you want every closed TradingView trade to sync itself, Pro adds the read-only EA at a flat $25/month with unlimited accounts and AI insights, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days, no card.
Will the Dusk Analyst EA slow down my TradingView terminal?
No - the EA is deliberately light. It's a single read-only file that does two things: it watches for closed trades in the account history and it sends them over HTTPS with your per-account API key. It never places orders, never repaints charts and doesn't interfere with your indicators or other EAs; it runs on its own chart window, following the usual one-EA-per-chart convention. The network call is a few kilobytes per closed trade, so even on a slow connection there's no noticeable impact on the terminal or your execution.
How long does Dusk Analyst auto-sync take to set up on TradingView?
About two minutes, end to end. Create your account (free tier is fine to start), open the connectors panel and copy your per-account API key, then attach the Dusk Analyst EA to a chart in TradingView and paste the key. The moment a trade closes, it appears in your journal. If your terminal was off when a trade closed, the EA catches up automatically on its next run, so nothing goes missing.
Is Dusk Analyst really free?
Yes. The free tier costs $0 forever and includes two accounts, manual trade entry and CSV import - enough to journal a live account properly, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve all calculated for you. There is no credit card required to start. Pro ($25/month flat) adds unlimited accounts, MT4/MT5/cTrader auto-sync, AI insights on your trading (1,000 trade-analyses a month), monthly reports and full export, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days with no card. The pricing is deliberately simple: one plan, one price, no per-feature upsells.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, and it needs no card. Every new Dusk Analyst account gets Pro free for 5 trading days from sign-up: auto-sync from MT4, MT5 and cTrader, AI Insights with 1,000 credits, monthly reports and unlimited accounts. Add a card to keep it free for 10 more trading days; billing ($25/month) starts only after that, and you can cancel anytime from Billing in the app, with nothing charged.
Can I import my existing trade history?
Yes - CSV import is available on every plan, including free. If you've been tracking trades in a spreadsheet, broker export or another journal, export the CSV from wherever it lives and import it into Dusk Analyst; the journal matches it against your accounts and keeps your history continuous. Import is also the fallback for platforms that don't run MT4, MT5 or cTrader. For MT4/MT5/cTrader terminals, Pro auto-syncs going forward and the EA backfills any trades your terminal missed while it was off. Any platform that exports a CSV of your trade history works. Dusk Analyst recognises TradingView, Tradovate, cTrader, MT4 and MT5 exports on sight; for anything else you map your columns once and that parser is saved for next time. Comma, semicolon and tab files are all handled, day-first and month-first dates are detected from the file itself, and any row that cannot be read is listed for you rather than dropped quietly.
How many AI credits do I get with Dusk Analyst Pro?
Pro includes 1,000 AI trade-analyses every month. One credit covers one trade, so asking a question about a 40-trade week costs 40 credits and you can keep asking. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month and the counter sits in the top bar of the app, so you always know where you stand. Narrowing a question to one account or a shorter date range makes the same allowance go much further. Free accounts get a small number of AI credits to try AI Insights, alongside the full journal, analytics and weekly reports, and the free Pro week (5 trading days, no card) includes the full monthly allowance.
