Built for options traders

An options trading journal that captures every leg and exit.

Dusk Analyst is an options trading journal: you log each option trade by hand or import it as a CSV, tag the strategy, strike and expiry, and see which strategies make money. Options brokers do not auto-sync; the free plan covers 2 accounts.

Free tier: 2 accounts, no card required.

Why it matters

Why options traders need a structured journal

Options positions decay, expire and adjust. Without a structured record of entries, exits and strategy, review becomes guesswork.

Structured trade history

Every options trade logged with its strategy tag, notes and P&L. Review what worked by strategy, delta, expiry or day of week.

Strategy-level analytics

See which options strategies actually produce your edge, and where adjustments or early exits are hurting your results.

CSV import for any broker

Import options trade history from your broker or platform via CSV, and backfill older accounts at any time. The Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.

Fields

What to log in an options trade journal

  • Strategy tag: long call, put spread, iron condor, covered call.
  • Strike and expiry: in the notes or as tags such as 0DTE or 30-45 DTE.
  • Entry reason and exit reason: profit target, stop, roll or expiry.
  • Result: P&L per trade, so analytics can compare strategies.

FAQ

Options journaling questions, answered.

What should an options trading journal track?

An options trading journal should track every entry and exit, the strategy used, the underlying, the expiry, the premium paid or received, and the realized P&L, plus your own tags and notes about why you took the trade. That structure is what makes review possible: with it you can see which strategies produce your edge, which deltas or expiries work best, and where adjustments or early exits hurt your results. Dusk Analyst stores all of that per trade and rolls it up into performance analytics, calendars and weekly reports. In our 2026 audit we checked 356 brokers and prop firms one by one against their own sites, and the brokers table on our home page shows the evidence for each one.

How do I get options trades into the journal?

Options trades can be imported into Dusk Analyst via CSV from your broker or platform, or logged manually with tags and notes. Once in, they get the same analytics, AI insights and weekly reports as every other account. Our 2026 audit checked 356 brokers and prop firms one by one against their own sites, and the brokers table on the home page shows the evidence for each. If your broker later adds a supported terminal such as MT4, MT5 or cTrader, auto-sync becomes available from the connectors panel. Free covers two accounts with manual entry and CSV import; Pro adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.

Is a paid options journal worth it?

Options are complex enough that an unstructured log quickly becomes useless for review. A structured journal makes strategy-level patterns visible and supports AI review, which a spreadsheet does not. In 2026 the price of a good trading journal is roughly $25 to $99 per month, and Dusk Analyst sits at the low end at $25 with a free tier underneath. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek. No credit card is required for Free, there are no setup fees, and you can cancel in one click.

What is the best option trading journal?

A good option trading journal records the strategy, strike, expiry and result of every trade and shows which strategies pay over time. Dusk Analyst does this with tags, notes and analytics by tag. It is free for 2 accounts and imports CSV files, but it does not auto-sync options brokers.

How do I use a trading journal for options?

Log each options trade with entry, exit, size and P&L. Use tags for the strategy (credit spread, iron condor, long call) and days to expiry, and notes for strikes and the reason you entered. Review weekly by tag to see which strategies have a positive expectancy.

Is Dusk Analyst really free?

Yes. The free tier costs $0 forever and includes two accounts, manual trade entry and CSV import - enough to journal a live account properly, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve all calculated for you. There is no credit card required to start. Pro ($25/month flat) adds unlimited accounts, MT4/MT5/cTrader auto-sync, AI insights on your trading (1,000 trade-analyses a month), monthly reports and full export, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days with no card. The pricing is deliberately simple: one plan, one price, no per-feature upsells.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, and it needs no card. Every new Dusk Analyst account gets Pro free for 5 trading days from sign-up: auto-sync from MT4, MT5 and cTrader, AI Insights with 1,000 credits, monthly reports and unlimited accounts. Add a card to keep it free for 10 more trading days; billing ($25/month) starts only after that, and you can cancel anytime from Billing in the app, with nothing charged.

Can I import my existing trade history?

Yes - CSV import is available on every plan, including free. If you've been tracking trades in a spreadsheet, broker export or another journal, export the CSV from wherever it lives and import it into Dusk Analyst; the journal matches it against your accounts and keeps your history continuous. Import is also the fallback for platforms that don't run MT4, MT5 or cTrader. For MT4/MT5/cTrader terminals, Pro auto-syncs going forward and the EA backfills any trades your terminal missed while it was off. Any platform that exports a CSV of your trade history works. Dusk Analyst recognises TradingView, Tradovate, cTrader, MT4 and MT5 exports on sight; for anything else you map your columns once and that parser is saved for next time. Comma, semicolon and tab files are all handled, day-first and month-first dates are detected from the file itself, and any row that cannot be read is listed for you rather than dropped quietly.

How many AI credits do I get with Dusk Analyst Pro?

Pro includes 1,000 AI trade-analyses every month. One credit covers one trade, so asking a question about a 40-trade week costs 40 credits and you can keep asking. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month and the counter sits in the top bar of the app, so you always know where you stand. Narrowing a question to one account or a shorter date range makes the same allowance go much further. Free accounts get a small number of AI credits to try AI Insights, alongside the full journal, analytics and weekly reports, and the free Pro week (5 trading days, no card) includes the full monthly allowance.
