No manual logging

A thinkorswim trading journal that makes every trade count toward your edge.

Dusk Analyst is a thinkorswim trading journal: you log your ToS trades by hand or import them as a CSV, tag the setup, and see win rate, profit factor and weekly reviews. It does not sync with thinkorswim directly, and the free plan covers 2 accounts.

Free tier: 2 accounts, no card required.

356 brokers verified  ·  Auto-sync on MT4, MT5 & cTrader  ·  2-minute setup

Why it matters

Why thinkorswim traders need a journal outside the platform

thinkorswim is built to find and execute trades, not to review them. Without a structured record, patterns stay hidden in your history.

Push, don't type

Log trades in seconds with manual entry, or import a CSV export from your broker to backfill. If you also trade MT4, MT5 or cTrader terminals, Pro auto-sync fills the journal for you, closed trades push themselves in via a free EA or cBot.

What to track

Entry, exit, size, P&L, the study or scan that set up the trade, plus your own tags and notes. Review what worked by strategy, session or day of week.

Review weekly

Weekly report export shows win rate, profit factor and where losses cluster, no spreadsheet formulas required. The Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.

Workflow

From thinkorswim to journal in a few minutes

  • Export or log. Export your trade history from thinkorswim as a CSV and import it, or log each trade by hand after the session.
  • Tag the setup. Add the study or scan that found the trade, plus a chart screenshot.
  • Review weekly. Check which tags have a positive expectancy and cut the ones that don't.

FAQ

thinkorswim journaling questions, answered.

How do I journal my thinkorswim trades?

Log trades manually or import a CSV export from your broker, both work at $0 on the Free tier, which covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export. Once in, trades get the same analytics and weekly reports as every other account. If you also execute through MT4, MT5 or cTrader, Pro at $25 per month adds auto-sync, AI insights and unlimited accounts. In our 2026 audit we checked 356 brokers and prop firms one by one against their own sites, and the brokers table on our home page shows the evidence for each one.

Does thinkorswim have a built-in trading journal?

thinkorswim is a charting and execution platform, it does not include a structured journal with win rate, profit factor and weekly performance reports, so most ToS traders end up keeping a spreadsheet. Dusk Analyst gives you that structure out of the box: entries, exits, the study or scan you traded, tags and notes, rolled up into analytics, calendars and weekly report export. Free covers two accounts with manual entry and CSV import; Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync for MT4, MT5 and cTrader, AI insights and full export.

Can Dusk Analyst auto-sync thinkorswim trades?

Not from thinkorswim itself: there is no terminal connector for ToS, so those trades come in via CSV export from your broker or manual entry. Auto-sync on Pro covers MT4, MT5 and cTrader terminals, where a free EA or cBot pushes every closed trade over HTTPS. The EA or cBot is read-only: it never places orders, changes charts, or touches your indicators. The journal never sees your broker password or login credentials; only your closed trades and the account nickname leave the terminal. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek.

What should a thinkorswim trading journal track?

Track every entry and exit, size, realized P&L, the strategy or study behind the trade, and one honest note about whether you followed your plan. That structure is what makes review possible: with it you can see which setups produce your edge and where execution slips cost you. Dusk Analyst stores all of it per trade and rolls it up into performance analytics, calendars and weekly report export. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek. No credit card is required for Free, there are no setup fees, and you can cancel in one click.

Is a paid trading journal worth it for thinkorswim traders?

A journal that computes win rate, profit factor and strategy breakdowns beats a diary when you are hunting for an edge, and that is what a paid tool adds over a spreadsheet. In 2026 the price of a good trading journal is roughly $25 to $99 per month, and Dusk Analyst sits at the low end at $25 with a free tier underneath, two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0.

What is the best trading journal for thinkorswim?

A good trading journal for thinkorswim takes your trades in without retyping, tags each setup and shows which ones pay. Dusk Analyst imports a CSV or takes manual entries, adds tags, notes and screenshots, and reports win rate and profit factor by setup. It is free for 2 accounts; Pro is $25 a month. It does not auto-sync thinkorswim.

Can I journal thinkorswim options trades?

Yes. Log each options trade with its entry, exit, size and result, and use tags for the strategy (covered call, vertical, iron condor) and notes for strike and expiry. The analytics then show which strategies make money. See the options trading journal page for the fields worth tracking.

How do I export my ThinkorSwim trade history?

Every ThinkorSwim terminal keeps a closed-trade history in its Account History view, and that data can be exported to a file for import elsewhere. Save the history as a report or CSV (the fields are standard: time, ticket, symbol, volume, price, commission, swap, profit), then import the file into Dusk Analyst on any plan - the free tier includes CSV import. On Pro you don't even need to export: the Dusk Analyst EA reads the same history automatically and pushes each close as it happens, including catch-up for periods the terminal was off.

Is there a free ThinkorSwim trading journal?

Yes - Dusk Analyst's free tier is $0 forever and works with ThinkorSwim: two accounts, manual entry and CSV import, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve calculated for you. That's a genuinely usable free journal, not a trial. If you want every closed ThinkorSwim trade to sync itself, Pro adds the read-only EA at a flat $25/month with unlimited accounts and AI insights, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days, no card.

Will the Dusk Analyst EA slow down my ThinkorSwim terminal?

No - the EA is deliberately light. It's a single read-only file that does two things: it watches for closed trades in the account history and it sends them over HTTPS with your per-account API key. It never places orders, never repaints charts and doesn't interfere with your indicators or other EAs; it runs on its own chart window, following the usual one-EA-per-chart convention. The network call is a few kilobytes per closed trade, so even on a slow connection there's no noticeable impact on the terminal or your execution.

How long does Dusk Analyst auto-sync take to set up on ThinkorSwim?

About two minutes, end to end. Create your account (free tier is fine to start), open the connectors panel and copy your per-account API key, then attach the Dusk Analyst EA to a chart in ThinkorSwim and paste the key. The moment a trade closes, it appears in your journal. If your terminal was off when a trade closed, the EA catches up automatically on its next run, so nothing goes missing.

Is Dusk Analyst really free?

Yes. The free tier costs $0 forever and includes two accounts, manual trade entry and CSV import - enough to journal a live account properly, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve all calculated for you. There is no credit card required to start. Pro ($25/month flat) adds unlimited accounts, MT4/MT5/cTrader auto-sync, AI insights on your trading (1,000 trade-analyses a month), monthly reports and full export, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days with no card. The pricing is deliberately simple: one plan, one price, no per-feature upsells.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, and it needs no card. Every new Dusk Analyst account gets Pro free for 5 trading days from sign-up: auto-sync from MT4, MT5 and cTrader, AI Insights with 1,000 credits, monthly reports and unlimited accounts. Add a card to keep it free for 10 more trading days; billing ($25/month) starts only after that, and you can cancel anytime from Billing in the app, with nothing charged.

Can I import my existing trade history?

Yes - CSV import is available on every plan, including free. If you've been tracking trades in a spreadsheet, broker export or another journal, export the CSV from wherever it lives and import it into Dusk Analyst; the journal matches it against your accounts and keeps your history continuous. Import is also the fallback for platforms that don't run MT4, MT5 or cTrader. For MT4/MT5/cTrader terminals, Pro auto-syncs going forward and the EA backfills any trades your terminal missed while it was off. Any platform that exports a CSV of your trade history works. Dusk Analyst recognises TradingView, Tradovate, cTrader, MT4 and MT5 exports on sight; for anything else you map your columns once and that parser is saved for next time. Comma, semicolon and tab files are all handled, day-first and month-first dates are detected from the file itself, and any row that cannot be read is listed for you rather than dropped quietly.

How many AI credits do I get with Dusk Analyst Pro?

Pro includes 1,000 AI trade-analyses every month. One credit covers one trade, so asking a question about a 40-trade week costs 40 credits and you can keep asking. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month and the counter sits in the top bar of the app, so you always know where you stand. Narrowing a question to one account or a shorter date range makes the same allowance go much further. Free accounts get a small number of AI credits to try AI Insights, alongside the full journal, analytics and weekly reports, and the free Pro week (5 trading days, no card) includes the full monthly allowance.
