Why it matters

Why day traders need a journal more than anyone

Intraday trading produces the most decisions and the least time to record them. An automatic or structured journal closes that gap.

Structured intraday logs

Every trade with entry, exit, size, P&L, tags and notes, reviewable by session, setup and day of week.

Rule adherence

See where you follow your plan and where emotion or impulse affects execution, trade by trade.

AI review of your history

Ask why your losses cluster in a session or what happens when you break your risk rule. The Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.

Tracker

Use it as a day trading tracker

A day trading tracker should answer one question each evening: did today follow the plan? Dusk Analyst shows daily P&L on a calendar, win rate and profit factor for the day, and which tags made or lost money, so you can spot overtrading and revenge trades before they become a habit.

FAQ

Day trading journal questions, answered.

Why is a day trading journal important?

A day trading journal is important because intraday traders make many decisions quickly, and memory alone cannot support honest review. A structured journal captures every trade with its entry, exit, size, P&L, tags and notes, then makes patterns visible: which setups produce your edge, how execution quality varies by session, and where rule breaks cost you money. Without it, the same mistakes repeat unnoticed. Dusk Analyst stores the full record and rolls it up into performance analytics, calendars and weekly reports, so review takes minutes instead of hours. The journal never sees your broker password or login credentials; only your closed trades and the account nickname leave the terminal.

How do I get day trades into the journal?

You can import day trade history into Dusk Analyst via CSV from your platform, or log trades manually with tags and notes. Once the trades are in, you get the same analytics, AI insights and weekly reports as every other account. If your platform runs MT4, MT5 or cTrader, auto-sync via a read-only EA or cBot is available from the connectors panel. The Free tier covers two accounts with manual entry, CSV import, tags, calendars, core analytics and weekly report export at $0. Pro at $25 per month adds unlimited accounts, auto-sync, AI insights and full export.

What metrics should a day trader journal track?

Track win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average win versus average loss, drawdown, and execution quality by session and setup. These numbers show whether your edge is real and where it comes from. Dusk Analyst computes them automatically from your history and adds AI review, so you can ask questions about your own data instead of building pivot tables. Dusk Analyst never asks for your broker password or investor password, and nothing logs into your account from our servers. Data is stored on Cloudflare, identity is handled by Auth0, billing by Stripe, and the AI that answers your insight questions runs on DeepSeek. No credit card is required for Free, there are no setup fees, and you can cancel in one click.

Is there a free day trading journal?

Yes. Dusk Analyst has a free plan at $0 forever with 2 accounts, manual entry, CSV import and core analytics such as win rate, profit factor and a P&L calendar. No card is needed. New accounts also get Pro free for 5 trading days, which adds MT4, MT5 and cTrader auto-sync.

What is the best day trading journal?

The best day trading journal is the one you can keep up to date after every session. Look for fast entry or import, setup tags, screenshots, and stats by time of day. Dusk Analyst covers these and is free for 2 accounts; on MT4, MT5 or cTrader, Pro auto-syncs trades so there is nothing to type.

Is there a day trading journal website?

Yes. Dusk Analyst runs in the browser at app.duskanalyst.com, so there is nothing to install for the journal itself. Sign up, add an account, then log or import trades. Only MT4, MT5 and cTrader auto-sync needs a small read-only EA or cBot in your own terminal.

Is Dusk Analyst really free?

Yes. The free tier costs $0 forever and includes two accounts, manual trade entry and CSV import - enough to journal a live account properly, with win rate, expectancy, drawdown and equity curve all calculated for you. There is no credit card required to start. Pro ($25/month flat) adds unlimited accounts, MT4/MT5/cTrader auto-sync, AI insights on your trading (1,000 trade-analyses a month), monthly reports and full export, and every new account gets Pro free for 5 trading days with no card. The pricing is deliberately simple: one plan, one price, no per-feature upsells.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, and it needs no card. Every new Dusk Analyst account gets Pro free for 5 trading days from sign-up: auto-sync from MT4, MT5 and cTrader, AI Insights with 1,000 credits, monthly reports and unlimited accounts. Add a card to keep it free for 10 more trading days; billing ($25/month) starts only after that, and you can cancel anytime from Billing in the app, with nothing charged.

Can I import my existing trade history?

Yes - CSV import is available on every plan, including free. If you've been tracking trades in a spreadsheet, broker export or another journal, export the CSV from wherever it lives and import it into Dusk Analyst; the journal matches it against your accounts and keeps your history continuous. Import is also the fallback for platforms that don't run MT4, MT5 or cTrader. For MT4/MT5/cTrader terminals, Pro auto-syncs going forward and the EA backfills any trades your terminal missed while it was off. Any platform that exports a CSV of your trade history works. Dusk Analyst recognises TradingView, Tradovate, cTrader, MT4 and MT5 exports on sight; for anything else you map your columns once and that parser is saved for next time. Comma, semicolon and tab files are all handled, day-first and month-first dates are detected from the file itself, and any row that cannot be read is listed for you rather than dropped quietly.

How many AI credits do I get with Dusk Analyst Pro?

Pro includes 1,000 AI trade-analyses every month. One credit covers one trade, so asking a question about a 40-trade week costs 40 credits and you can keep asking. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month and the counter sits in the top bar of the app, so you always know where you stand. Narrowing a question to one account or a shorter date range makes the same allowance go much further. Free accounts get a small number of AI credits to try AI Insights, alongside the full journal, analytics and weekly reports, and the free Pro week (5 trading days, no card) includes the full monthly allowance.
